When it comes to memorizing vocabulary , it just want to scream “Oh my gosh, I hate it” because no matter how hard it try to remember they just don’t stay with me. That’s really frustrating.I have a few questions for you:
- Do you think learning new words in English is important? Absolutely, yes it is super important because “The richer your vocabulary, the more fluently you can speak the language, so you should be learning new words every day”
- “Do you find it difficult to remember new words in English?” you’re going to answer it yourself.
And what do you think of this old-fashioned way of remembering and using vocabulary your teachers have taught you? you have a list of 30 English words with the translations in Vietnamese, you have to write it down 30 times in order to remember them. Quite honestly, I really hate this stupid technique .
What are rational solutions?
Using CONTEXT TO LEARN ENGLISH VOCABULARY is by far the most successful method.
Why is context so important when memorizing new words. Well, first of all, the meaning of words can change dramatically depending on the context. Let’s pretend for a moment that you are learning English these days. How could you possibly memorize the meanings of the verb “get” out of a word list? “Get” is one of those words in English that has literally hundreds of definitions. And learning one out of those hundreds won’t get you very far, and won’t necessarily be that useful when you actually come across that word in real life.
Here is how you learn, “Put the word into the context”:I got out of bed, got the paper, got myself some breakfast, got some coffee, and began to get dressed and to get ready for work. I got in the car, got to the office, and got to work. I got a lot done, and still had time to get some money at the bank and get a sandwich at the deli for lunch.
SPACED REPETITION METHOD (SPM)
A student needs to encounter a new word 10 to 16 times to effectively “learn” it according to recent research. Whether you like it or not you have to use the words every day in order to use them naturally.
For example: “beautiful” is the new word. Make it become part of your daily life. “Oh, look at the sunset, so beautiful; that girl is just so beautiful; mom is the most beautiful women in the entire whole world” and so forth. The key is to keep using the words every day until it’s a small part of your language without realizing. That being said, REPETITION IS THE KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL IN LANGUAGE LEARNING.
Hopefully, these tips have helped you a bit. if you like it, give it a like and make sure to share with people you know. Have a fabulous day.
